I think the main appeal of things like this is that seeing people do them adds a feeling of completeness to the world. Fishing and other grind-based crafting or trade skills really don't fit with Guild Wars, but telling someone to go play The Sims just because they'd like to see a few new emotes, or features that add a bit of atmosphere to the game is extremely silly. There's nothing bad at all about having the visual aspect of something like fishing, just for fun. It doesn't harm the game or change it in any way.

Mapoone, you stated yourself that nobody liked the fishing idea. You defending it again is just going to annoy people. The only asshole I see here is you.

Perhaps what the game really needs, instead of useless emotes or tradeskills, is some NPCs in towns other than merchants and quest-givers. Have some NPCs on the shores, or talking in the market, things along that line.

Cool

I have no problem with a fishing emote. Useless emotes certainly doesn't go against the spirit of the game, considered the number of useless emotes already in the game.

Well, I found a rabbit but I did not know what to do with it. So I followed it around and it showed me to a waterfall.
Quack.

Nothing is wrong with fishing, it would nice if we can fish and put the fish as a trophy in our Guild Hall or if better our own house. But there shouldn't be any leveling for fishing skills, it's all determine randomly.

Default No more robot clones!!!

I totaly agree with whoever said guildwars isn't another clone MMORPG! I'm definately not saying other MMORPG's are lame or anything, but c'mon people. We don't need another game which just duplicates EQ/WoWC/Runescape/DAoC, and adds it's own graphics / audio ... To tell you the truth, this game doesn't even need the whole profession system added into it (although it's still a great concept, but leave this one for the other 10 MMORPG's ).

I say let the hours upon hours of gameplay relly on that of fighting, leveling to show off, gain new friends, battle endless guild wars and collecting those ever needed materials to reep the benefits of 115+ defense armor that everyone loves to hate crafting.

...Peace!

As I've read though post after post it sounds like on one side, there is this resistence for change. On the other side there are those who are wanting to bring in more and expand the vision of the game...Houses, Boats, Swimming, Fishing, etc. (i'm in this group btw)

Now here's what I don't understand about the "resisting" side... If you added all these elements into the game and changed nothing else, has the game become a totally diffrent game? No. It's still Guild Wars. The limits have expanded. You still have to fight monsters, you still have guilds, you still have everything that you had before, right? So, just because they add fishing and houses does that mean you have to go fishing and buy/build a house? Of course not, these (would be) options allow you to have the choice to do them or not.

If you still don't agree with this, then here's a simple answer...program your own game and make it however you want!

Mmm...I wonder how many people in this forum i've pissed off...

I don't see how people are getting so uppity with crafting being thrown in sort of after the fact. If you're a master blacksmith able to craft some high end rare axes, swords, so on, but nothing that will outshine any hack and slasher's own supplies, then there isn't a big deal. Especially if say they need 4 or so steel to equal a 6-28 8req axe, it gives a few people their own little ability, and the rest of us don't have to worry. It is when crafting becomes necessary and a definite use as opposed to an alternative, like say with potions, then everyone will need potions, if someone doesn't have it, then you are put on the bench sort of, and if no one uses it because they are so rare, and then someone decides to, then he wasted it but now has an unfair advantage.

Plus with Fishing, here is how we solve this, include fishing, but you don't actually catch fish like to place in inventory. Instead, just create a "Fishing in Kryta" mini-game, trying to catch the biggest fish in the strangest or most dangerous locales, maybe even fight a monster or two that you catch to give that extra bit of excitement, or have constant skale and such attacks so you need some furthered protection by your team while doing so.

one thing to do is in places like the drawven iron mines add small places along the wall that blend in, and when you click on them there's a chance iron or steel will come out of it (extremly rarely, but every so often), you could do this on trees or with some plants, maybe even patches of water for fishing. this would add another way to get materials without destroying GW.

what has me worried is ill be level capped this week, then what? PVP everyday? Go hunt for better weapons and armor? I will say this is one of the best games i have ever played thus far. But this low level cap has me worried that after another week or two, i'll be bored :/ No telling what future expansion will bring us, but im not planning on jsut having missions to do for the rest of my stay in GW

Dear Dev's, please make sure future changes to the game are about enhancing and increasing character choice and customisation as well as the effect your character has on the game, and not on time wasting pointless 'oh look I can fish, weeee' rubbish.

Thnx

thats true, i often feal, aspescialy when not in town, but in town non the less, that im playing by my self, its not so bad after the searing but in pre-searing its bad, but if they had people common people just talking or working, such as wall builder out side of pre-searing asclon that just said random things like "good day" or "i hope my welfair check comes to day" it might add to the atmosfear for one, and secondly it might make you feal like your not alone

This may have been mentioned. But if not oh well... GW is not an MMO. If you want to fish go pay to play monthly... Even better go buy a fishing pole, drive to a dock, hop in a boat and go fishing. Really its alot more fun then it sounds. Personally I hope to see no type of Grinding in this game ever. It would ruin the games concept. No grinding, hop on, play with friends, kill some people. Not hop on see if you can get that nice 300 in armorsmithing. This isnt WoW if you want item grinding WoW is your place to go.

I've never understood someone's hatred with a basically non-present tradeskill within the game. As long as it isn't drinking buff pots, or throwing out grenades, or something similar to that, these shouldn't be hated, when those happen then it becomes a necessity to survival which is the problem, but fishing...it is fishing, if it were blacksmithing it would just be making the same items you have only at a better chance of getting it obviously since it is made, not randomly found. Alot of people really enjoy tradeskills, me, not generally one of them, but, it can be helpful to the economy and get some motion more active than constant combat. I love FPS games, I still play HL/NS and UT2k4/RO more than GW, but, this is a persistent world, it means other areas can be done.

Including the ability to go fishing like I had indicated above does nothing to the game, people are just paranoid as though any system with a name at all cannot be done correctly. For that matter, ask em why they even included any leveling, or combat at all, it should be chess, just an utterly massive game of chess. Freaking tools on this forum I swear...

Default The Thing I Would like To See Most: Fishing

I would love to see fishing in Guild Wars. Back when I played FFXI fishing was one of my favorite things to do when I was bored. There is plenty of water in Guild Wars so there should be fish to go along with that water. It would be cool if you could take the fish you caught and sell them and there could be a bunch of different kinds of fish that you could catch. I was just wondering if anyone also thinks that fishing would be cool.

The search button is your friend.

So yes, other people similarly wish they were playing another game. Possibly one with a monthly fee, with activities like fishing, hunting, basket weaving, competitive flower arranging, Feng Shui, origami and other such activities.

Then again this is Guild Wars, which is, predictably enough, about guilds who go out and battle, in small war-like matches. Why try to change the game from something completely unlike the game you want to play when games like that exist. Play the game you want, buy an MMORPG.

But I think it would be better to have them all in one game. Lol I know that sounds like alot but you know... Just add a few things for us to do while we don't have favor for example. Like in FFXI there are fun things to do but the graphics and some other parts of the game suck. Why not have the awesome graphics of GW and then also some things to do for fun?
